Eyelit's Award-winning Integrated Manufacturing Execution (MES) and Quality Management Software Suite Selected by Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Panel Manufacturer for Use in Automated Thin Film Solar Cell Production

Eyelit to Support Rapid Manufacturing Ramp of Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) Solar Panel Production in First Solar Plant

August 22, 2007
SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Eyelit Inc., a manufacturing software provider for visibility, control, and coordination of manufacturing operations for the aerospace & defense, electronics, life sciences, semiconductor and solar industries, announced today that an innovative photovoltaic (PV) solar cell producer has selected Eyelit’s Enterprise Manufacturing Execution Suite to reduce time to market of solar panels.

The solution includes complex tracking of unmarked product (WIP) through a series of containers maintaining full product history. Eyelit’s multi-level, object-oriented structure is used track “group” level containers, in which lower levels (of product) such as batches and/or lots are contained. Eyelit’s Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) FactoryConnect middleware allows for easy integration of tools, automation (material handling), and RFID interfaces in much less time than comparable solutions.

Subsequent phases will include integration with Oracle ERP (E-Business Suite) and deployment of Eyelit’s Quality Management solution for CAPA and Non-Conformance management.

"Time to market is critical for any manufacturer, but the incredible ramp in the solar industry is proving that the most flexible, fastest-to-implement MES product suite on the market fits the industry needs like a glove. The Eyelit catalog of products can be deployed faster than any competing solution on the market today, and we've proven that by going from the very first meeting to MES and equipment integration go-live in just ten weeks," stated Dan Estrada, Vice President of Sales and Business Development.

Like the MEMS industry, solar panel manufacturing often has semiconductor front-end as well as back-end (assembly) requirements. The additional need to provide automation and tool connectivity from the start uniquely positions Eyelit as the ideal solution for solar panel manufacturers looking to gain a competitive advantage and improve time to market at a much lower cost.

Eyelit’s solution is flexible and supports various PV cell and module manufacturing styles, be it crystalline, silicon-based solar cells or alternatives, such as glass, plastic, or stainless-steel based solar cell manufacturing. wafer-to-panel, roll/coil-to-panel, glass-to-panel processes can be tracked and controlled with Eyelit’s software, usually in less than eight weeks. Eyelit’s solution allows PV companies to focus on process stability, ramping production, and photovoltaic efficiencies—not writing shop-floor and automation software.
